I am using Microsoft’s new Internet Explorer 9. It uses a low-level Windows technology called DirectWrite to display all the text on web pages.
Microsoft’s reasoning for this is that DirectWrite produces a more ‘correct’ font display and uses a computer’s own graphics card to speed up the display of web pages.
Unfortunately, the net result of this is that the text on web pages now looks washed out with less contrast. There is also less visual distinction between normal and bold text. In short, web pages are harder to read than than they used to be.
Please, Microsoft, if you are going to replace an old technology, make sure the new one is better.
